Aguero pens Man City extension; Weimann set for contract talks

Manchester City forward has signed a one-year contract extension which will keep him at the Etihad Stadium until the summer of 2017, .

Aguero, who joined City from Atletico Madrid for a reported fee of €45 million in the summer of 2011, had three years remaining on his current before putting pen to paper on a new deal.

Prior to signing a new deal, the Argentina international had been linked with a summer move to Real Madrid, but moved to distance himself from such speculation, telling The Sun:  There are always rumours in the summer, but I am very happy at City. I m going to work hard and everything else is just rumours.

FIFA World Cup Qualifying Preview: Paraguay v Chile

The recent record between the two nations could not be closer, with both sides having won four matches each in their last ten meetings and the other two clashes ending in draws.

Paraguay will be hoping that they can record their first victory against Chile since 2007 and will need Oscar Cardozo to continue his club goalscoring form if they are to do so.
The 30-year-old striker scored 26 goals for Benfica this season but his record for Paraguay is far from impressive. He has only scored nine goals in 46 appearances, and hasn t found the back of the net since August 2012.
All-time Paraguayan top goalscorer Roque Santa Cruz will also be present for Pelusso s side, though he has not netted for his country since July 2011.

Chile s attacking options appear to be much stronger, al…

Scots confident of Dutch upset

George Burley has bullishly insisted his patched up Scotland squad can upstage Holland s big names when the two nations clash in a World Cup qualifier here on Saturday.

The Dutch go into the match as overwhelming favourites having thrashed their opponents 6-0 on their last visit to Amsterdam, for a Euro 2004 play-off at the end of 2003.

Scotland s cause has not been helped by a string of injuries but Burley insisted that his players had travelled in confident mood.

As far as the players are concerned there has been no negativity at all, the Scotland manager said.

They do believe they can win and they re looking forward to it. It doesn t get any bigger than coming to Amsterdam to play a team that is top six in the world.

Burley made it clear tha…

Lampard delighted with season

Chelsea ace Frank Lampard believes the 2008/09 season is his best ever.

The 30-year-old has shown superb form in recent months and is hoping to get even better.

I think personally it has been my best season, said Lampard.

Over the course of the season different things have cropped up, and as a group we ve had some ups and downs, but I m very pleased with the way I ve been playing.

Hopefully my thirties can be my best years. I m more experienced, more aware of how to play the game and how to manage myself in between games.

People used to joke about me hitting shots from all over the pitch, and when you re younger you do try a lot of things.

Now I m looking for the right moment to slip people in and the right moment to score.

Everton complete £22million Gomes signing

Everton have signed Andre Gomes from Barcelona in a £22million deal following a successful season on loan.

Gomes, also linked with Premier League rivals Tottenham and West Ham, has signed a five-year contract at Goodison Park.

The Portugal midfielder appeared 29 times for Everton in all competitions last season after joining on a deadline-day loan in August 2018.

I m really happy to sign the contract with Everton it wasn’t hard to decide, it was an easy decision and I’m very happy to have made it, Gomes told his new side s official website.

I know the club made a massive effort to sign me and I m very happy and thankful to them. I said during the year that I felt part of a family and that is the most important thing to me.

Reguilon would recommend Spurs to Ramos if Real Madrid legend eyes new adventure

Sergio Reguilon expects Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos to sign a new deal with the Bernabeu giants but would recommend Tottenham to the Spain great if he was tempted by the Premier League.

Captain of club and country, Ramos turns 35 in March but still appears to have plenty to offer at the highest level.

Left-back Reguilon left Real Madrid to join Tottenham in September and revealed in an interview with AS that he did not speak to Los Blancos boss Zinedine …

Prediction: Newcastle vs Chelsea

Verdict: Chelsea

Best Odds:

Bookmaker:

Chelsea shot themselves in the foot with a home draw against Huddersfield and their Champions League qualification hopes now hang by a thread ahead of the final Premier League match at Newcastle.

Newcastle

Newcastle United have endured a difficult season in the Premier League. Even though their top tier status is assured, the Magpies head into the final match of the season with plenty to fight for.

Rafa Benitez’s men currently sit in 10th but could end up sliding as low as 15th if other results do not go their way on Sunday. Such a scenario will seemingly make a little difference but could have a huge effect on the club’s budget. Newcastle look set to pocket £21.3 million in merit payments for their 1…

De Bruyne doubts Manchester City points record will ever be beaten

Kevin De Bruyne thinks it will be very difficult for any team to match Manchester City s record tally of 100 points for a Premier League season.

A last-minute winner from Gabriel Jesus against Southampton on Sunday saw the champions become the first team ever to reach three figures for points in a single 38-game campaign in the competition.

The achievement underlined the remarkable performance of Pep Guardiola s side in 2017-18, who also set records for most wins overall and away from home, most goals scored, biggest goal difference, greatest title-winning margin and the least time trailing in their matches.

De Bruyne admits it was a special moment to hit the points tally in such dramatic fashion, and the Belgium star does not expect the feat to be repeated again…

Leicester City 3 Crystal Palace 1: Champions return to winning ways

Goals from Ahmed Musa, Shinji Okazaki and Christian Fuchs saw Leicester City record a 3-1 win over Crystal Palace at the King Power Stadium on Saturday as the reigning champions three-game winless streak in the Premier League came to an end.

Leicester were beaten 3-0 by Chelsea last week, having previously failed to beat Southampton (0-0) and Manchester United (4-1), but they returned to winning ways following a sublime strike from Musa in the closing stages of the first half and a clinical finish from Okazaki after the break.

Fuchs added gloss late on with a wonderful, long-range effort before Yohan Cabaye netted an 85th-minute consolation.

Claudio Ranieri opted to make two changes to the team that beat Copenhagen 1-0 in midweek in the Champions League, dro…
